Jahana Hayes is the teacher you want every child to have. She’s enthusiastic, inspirational and empathetic. She genuinely believes every student can learn. “Everyone has a gift. And I think once you figure out what that gift is and you make a connection with them and meet them wherever they are, learning occurs,” Hayes told the “CBS This Morning” anchors.

“CBS This Morning” revealed live during our broadcast that Hayes had won 2016 National Teacher of the Year. We decided to include several components to her appearance to give that announcement weight. I produced the set-up package, which focused on Hayes’ commitment to community service, and her live appearance. We also set up a real-time feed of her students hearing the news for the first time at her school to get the priceless interaction between the proud pupils and their adoring teacher.
